As another week begins, Funny Women is one step closer to finding and crowning the winner of the Funny Women Awards 2012. Friday 29th June saw the superlatively satirical General Advice Bureau go through to our 10th Anniversary Funny Women Awards Final. They were chosen from 10 acts as worthy finalists after making the audience to cry with laughter at their perfectly exaggerated interpretation of not so ‘yummy mummies,’ fuelled by copious quantities of caffiene. Congratulations ladies, we can’t wait to see what you will have in store for the final!
Two fantastic acts were also chosen as runners up and will be considered for the last five places in the final once all of the semi-finals have taken place. These acts are Jennifer Carnovole and Katie Lane who delivered two outstanding razor-sharp slices of observational comedy.
The show took place at the Leicester Square Theatre, which has seen many fabulous female comedians perform, including Joan Rivers. Our host for the evening was the fabulous Ria Lina, who was our runner up for the very first Funny Women awards in 2003. She made sure that there was plenty of love and appreciation in the room for the fantastic semi-finalists and had the audience in the palm of her hand, whilst also delievering superb one-liners to the latecomers in the audience. Jade the Folksinger, our first ever Funny Women Award winner rounded off the night with beautifully timed folk songs on *ahem* adult themes! Find out what she has been up to since winning in 2003 in an interview we had with her earlier this year HERE.
We’d like to congratulate all of the acts from Friday night for delivering exceptional performances that really gave the judges a hard time of deciding who to put through.
The next semi-final takes place on Wednesday 11th July at the lovely waterside destination The Lowry, Salford Quays. As preparations for our visit up North are well underway, why not book your tickets HERE to make sure you don’t miss us.
