Over the past few months our London and Brighton Nights showcases have become bigger and better than ever before.
We now have a dedicated Brighton Funny Women Team to bring the very best female comedy talent to the sunny seaside town and our London Nights special guest bookers have been going down a storm. Each month we invite an act to book the show to include their very favourite comedy acts. This month’s show however will have a very exciting twist.
Our guest booker this month is Funny Women favourite Clare Lomas, who was a finalist in the 2011 Awards. Clare recently tickled the ivories in the final of the prestigious Musical Comedy Awards 2012. We’re delighted that Clare has agreed to share her taste in comedy performers with us at our next London Nights show on Friday 27thApril at the Leicester Square Theatre. These shows truly reflect the taste of our guest bookers, and we’ve opened them up to include male comedians now as well.
“Funny Women is all about creating a platform for women in comedy and we felt it was time to start reflecting our tastes in comedy as well as presenting the best female acts,” explains founder of Funny Women, Lynne Parker. “Sadly a lot of promoters don’t book enough women which is why we continue to book all female shows in Brighton and Edinburgh, but we felt that London was a good place to start mixing it up a bit! We’ve always believed that there is room on a stage for both male and female performers and having a variety of acts will make for a really exciting show.”
Clare will be hosting this very special London Nights which will also feature the brilliantly bonkers characters of Alison Thea-Skot, who was a finalist alongside Clare in the 2011 Awards with many more to be announced shortly.
Our Brighton Fringe Festival showcase on Sunday 6thMay will be hosted by the fabulous Sajeela Kershi who has quite rightly been described as a ‘hugely talented divine diva’. This show will also feature Lucy Frederick, who will bring affable middle class confusion to the stage, and the brilliant, Claire Parker, another Brighton favourite.
