Dynamic Asian duo and Hackney Empire New Act of the Year finalists, Sajeela Kershi and Yasmeen Khan, present an action packed sketch oriented show. Rule Brittania! pushes the boundaries of political correctness by presenting the case for Asians being funny stand ups, good sketch writers and part of a culture with a world view that outstrips the normal British psyche.

We heard a few of the audience remark that the media spoofs and sketches weren’t out there enough, but in our opinion this is a very brave exploration of what it really is to be Asian in a western society that compartmentalises so called foreign cultures with stereotypical labels. This duo don't revert to that stereotype and there was no mention of arranged marriage, although Bin Laden did seem to slip into the routine, but not in the manner that you would expect.

There is no gratuitous sex, drugs or rock n roll in this one but every contentious area of cultural difference is touched upon in an intelligent and non threatening accessible manner whilst at the same time providing a level of comic entertainment that is up to the level of the ‘big names in comedy’.

Not to be missed.
