Jen Brister is British-ish. The child of a British father and Spanish mother, she taps into the nature of Britishness, cultural identity, and the culture clash that many of us with mixed backgrounds can relate to. But that makes the show sound awfully serious, when in fact sharp satire and keen observation meet the silly in this well-paced and well-rounded hour.
There were a lot of highlights, but in particular her explanation of the British Empire as Britain's colonial wang plays with historical fact and the perpostrous in a way that should have Andy Zaltzman watching his back. As a performer, Jen's timing is impeccable, and she conveys a lot in subtle facial expressions and her use of the stage.
