Scurrying around like the stage like a joyous rabbit, Jessica Fortescue is a happy, quirky presence. Or maybe she’s just putting it on so we like her, ‘I’m far too changeable,’ she tells us, and this is the story of how she realized that trying to be everything to everyone pleased no one.
I wish there had been a central story about overcoming a need to be liked on which she hung her amusing anecdotes about her luxury tramp lifestyle, her family and her cracking cow impression. But instead they all seemed crowbarred into the supposed theme, which felt more like a year’s material amassed rather than a cohesive show. Funny material with a well thought-out performance, it’s no wonder that she’s been tipped for big things at this year’s Fringe, but somewhat lacking in substance for a full hour solo show.
