Get out your beach towels and reserve a seat or two!  We're Rising to the challenge for the second of our two Funny Women Awards heats in Brighton and showcasing some top talent on Saturday 25th June.  The show is being hosted by the stunning Sunna Jarman, who regularly hosts her own comedy nights in London and last year's winners, Thankless Child, will headline.

Liz Black and Freya Slipper who together make up Thankless Child have already been described as 'the new generation French & Saunders' and they are very much looking forward to performing at Komedia in Brighton, following their victory last year. Commenting on their win the duo said:

'The competition has a fantastic buzz about it and it's a great opportunity to be seen by industry professionals.'

Brighton has always been a rich hunting ground for new Funny Women talent – our 2004 winner, Zoe Lyons, hails from the balmy shores of our favourite seaside town, and other notable Brighton successes include finalists Julie Jepson and Sarah Hendrickx. The darkly hilarious Kerry Herbert, who runs Charity Chuckle in Brighton, a hugely successful charity comedy night, graced the stage in last year's semi finals and Annabel Giles, another very funny woman and Brighton resident, regularly hosts for us and is one of our favourite 'leading ladies' at Awards heats and showcases around the UK.

We get a lot of brilliant new talent referred to us from top comedy coach Jill Edwards, who runs courses at Komedia, and we love the improv tradition set up by the likes of Ali Adolph with the Short & Girlie Show, and the talented Maydays Laydies which includes past Awards finalist Katy Schutte.

So Brighton – we need your talent!  We continue to do our fund and awareness raising bit for local charity, Rise, and will be donating some of the proceeds from next week's show.

We're also taking part in Race for Life on Saturday 2nd July.  Every little helps…
