Funny Women

Sunday night saw a fantastic and warm welcome back to our Second Sunday Showcase. Host, Julie Jepson, one of our 2005 finalists, started the evening by getting to know each member of the lively crowd at the Leicester Square Theatre studio. Julie also treated the audience to her ‘google face’… priceless!

First up on the bill was Iona Dudley-Ward attempting to inspire confidence in the audience once again with her character of Lyn, the confidence coach, who has a hilariously nervous disposition.

Another of our finalists from this year, Lindsay Sharman also went down a treat followed by new talent, Zoe Grisedale, giving a brilliant routine about dancing at a modelling audition. A useful guide of what not to do if you’re a model!

Rachel Parris brought the first half to a brilliant close. Armed with her keyboard, she had a hysterical audience singing along and was met with a roar of applause at the end of her set.

Interval, drinky drinky, chatty, chatty – just to give a sense of atmosphere.

The second half saw this year’s Funny Women Award Winners, comic duo Thankless Child, take to the stage with a bizarre sketch about chickens and a side-splitting sea shanty, ironically they went down a storm! Thankless Child are ones to watch out for.

Last but by no means least was our terrific headliner Kerry Godliman, a finalist from our 2003 awards. Since then she has made appearances on many shows such as Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. Kerry delighted the audience with her musings on her fickle nature and on becoming a (very tired) mother. She left the audience begging for more, with cries of ‘don’t go’ being heard from the back!

If this show was anything to go by, our next Second Sunday Showcase will bring another fantasic evening of entertainment. Tickets for our next Sunday show are on sale now. It will be headlined by Mandy Muden, who will be bringing her mix of comedy and magic to the Leicester Square theatre along with Gemma Whelan, Lara King, Julia Clark and Rachel Sambrooks. Hosted by Clare Lomas. Tickets available here…

Review: The Glitter Challenge at the Comedy Store London

Jaz Ampaw Farr may have been the one to announce that she had “Truth Tourettes” during the Funny Women Glitter Challenge at the Comedy Store last week.
