Excuse the trite, autumnal metaphor but we truly are harvesting the finest crop of the freshest talent, here at Funny Women, that we unearthed over the summer season. Yes, it all seems like eons ago that our search first began, when cherry blossom petals graced the pavements, and those ‘cold nights drawing in’ seemed an eternity away . But as we look back over what has been an incredible year of fresh pickings, we can look forward to warming our tootsies against the radiator of comedy warmth (terrible central heating metaphors now) that is the return of our seminal Second Sunday Showcases this weekend.
We’re excited to announce that our first Autumnal line-up features this year’s Awards’ winners – Freya Slipper and Liz Black, otherwise known as comedy duo and rising stars Thankless Child; and finalists Lindsay Sharman (who did a brilliant job of keeping the audience on track just after a fight broke out in the second-half of our Final!) and character-act Iona Dudley-Ward who may be coaxing out Lyn the Confidence Coach for another night of sterling entertainment. Our brilliant runner-up Rachel Parris will also be performing her unique and quirky style of musical comedy.
The evening will be headlined by Kerry Godliman, who reached the Funny Women Final back in 2003. Described as “a great comic who oozes personality” (Bruce Dessau) we’re delighted to have established comedienne Kerry, who has had recent success on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, head up this fantastic, new talent, all of which are, no doubt, on their own paths to success.
Our host for the night Julie Jepson grabbed everyone’s attention on the comedy circuit when she made it to the Funny Women Final back in 2005, on only her third gig.
Workshops
Don’t forget, we’re back in Kew this Saturday (9th October) running a comedy workshop. Do tell any of your friends or colleagues who might be interested in trying out stand-up in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
